McDonald, Keddy: Vogelweh, Sembach, Kerpen, and Norvenich (in that order): 1982–1988

I went to 4 DoD schools in 6 years. The one I remember the most is Norvenich. Not because I was older, but because that is the school I attended the longest before we moved to the States. I attended Kerpen Elementary in the last year it was open (1984-1985 school year). I then went to Norvenich Elementary from 1985 (the year it opened) until 1988. I don’t remember what year it was, but we buried a time capsule to be opened in 20 years. The school was only open for 10 years, so I wonder if that time capsule was ever dug up and opened. I would really like to find out.

The teachers I remember the most were Ms. Froehlke, Frau Schmidt, Mrs. Ruckdashal, and our principal Dr. Brooks. The two I loved the most were Ms. Froehlke and Frau Schmidt. Ms. Froehkle was fun and animated. I love books so much because of her. She made the books come to life when she would read to us. I loved her for that. Frau Schmidt had a little more of the tough love approach, but she taught me to be tough (I did deal with a fair amount of bullying from one girl) and to always put in 100%. Those two teachers had more to do with shaping who I became than any other educator in my almost 50 years of life. I deeply cherish the memories from Norvenich Elementary School.
