Sebastian Michelena was a resident of Buffalo, Wyoming. Following graduation from Arvada High School, he attended Sheridan College for two years, received is Bachelors Degree from Black Hills State College, and his Masters Degree from the University of Wyoming. Prior to teaching with DoDDS, he taught in Sheridan Wyoming, and Lovelock, Nevada.
His DoDDS experience began in 1969 as a secondary teacher in Brindisi, Italy. He then became the Art and Business Coordinator, working out of Karlsruhe, Germany, and created an innovative Business Laboratory well in advance of other programs at that time. While serving in the Mediterranean Region he was noted for arranging and conducting summer workshops for art teachers in historically important settings, broadening the scope of the Art Program by focusing on the contributions of the host country. In his following assignments as an Educational Coordinator for the Heidelberg District in Germany and the Mediterranean District in Vicenza, Italy, he continued to include host nation activities in his programs. He retired in 2005.
Mich was a respected, dedicated educator, a gentleman willing to help when ever and where ever he was needed. Most of all, Mich was a good person and will be missed by his family, many friends, and his co-workers.
