Richard Osner

“Oz” served in the Pacific as a quartermaster during the Second World War. He was awarded the Purple Heart for service on the USS Yorktown during the Battle of Midway.

After the war he studied mathematics and began his career with DoDDS in 1962. He served in the Pacific for over 30 years as a curriculum coordinator, assistant superintendent and superintendent in Japan. “Oz” moved to Germany in 1996, serving as superintendent of the Würzburg district. He retired from DoDDS in 1999 following 37 years of service.

“Oz” and wife, Yasuko, retired to Albuquerque, NM where he passed away Nov. 10, 2005, from a fall and stroke. He is survived by Yasuko, six children and several grandchildren. “Oz” was known, respected and loved by scores offriends and colleagues around the world.
