JAMES TATE (1943-    ) 

POET

James Tate’s father, a military pilot shot down over Germany, was the subject of his first book, “The Lost Pilot.”

He was the youngest poet to win Yale’s Young Poet’s Competition. In addition to winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1991, he has won the National Book Award. Currently, he teaches at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and is a Chancellor of the Academy of Poets.
