William T. Sampson ES History

Opened: 1966
Closed: 2003

The W. T. Sampson Elementary School was located at Victory Hill and was referred to as the Victory Hill School. It was part of the W. T. Sampson School until 1966. In 1975 a new elementary school was built.

Originally managed by the U.S. Navy, in 1976 W. T. Sampson School led the way as all other overseas DoD schools were re-organized into the new, worldwide DoD educational system, the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, or DoDDS.

The school was evacuated from September 1994 to January 1996 because the base was used to house Haitian refugees. The elementary school and high school became a unit school again for the 2003-2004 school year.
