Aviano Junior High School was located on the Italian-owned NATO Air Base in Aviano, Italy. The junior high was opened in 1969 for grades seven through ten. The yearbook was the Panther Sun. In 1972 the principal was Mr. Kaufmann and there were seventeen staff members. That year there were approximately 300 students in grades seven through ten. Extracurricular activities included the yearbook, newspaper, drama, two intraschool football teams – Saints and Rams, four intraschool boys’ basketball teams and five girls’ intraschool basketball teams.

In 1974 the supervising principal for the Aviano schools was Larry Lyons and John Middleton was the middle school principal. The faculty had increased to twenty-one teaching staff with over 400 students enrolled. Several additional student activities were added to include a junior high band, an Afro-American Club, wrestling, National Junior Honor Society, a drill team and boys’ soccer and wrestling. The middle school also had a Teen Involvement Club whose primary purpose was to serve as counselors to elementary students.

For the 1974-75 school year, grades eleven and twelve were added to the junior high and thus Aviano now had a high school.
