Vajont Elementary School was opened in August 1994 to accommodate the increased enrollment in the Aviano community. The school had grades kindergarten through six with an enrollment of 200 students the first year. The school was located in a newly renovated Italian school in the city of Vajont.
Rosemary Letenoff was the first principal, and the enrollment the first year was about 220 students. The next principal was Nick Siuda, followed by Joel Hansen and finally Robert Richards. The faculty and staff numbered less than thirty and combination classes were necessary. Students participated in local celebrations and district and/or regional programs such as Odyssey of the Mind and an annual Spelling Bee.
The school mascot was the Vipers.
The school was closed in 2002 when the new elementary school in Aviano was constructed.
