Glyfada ES (part of Athens ES) History

The Glyfada Elementary School was one of the two facilities that made up Athens Elementary School. The Glyfada Annex was located four miles from the American Air Base in Athens. For the 1981-82 school year, there were 168 students in grades one and two. Between the two schools there were twenty-one classroom teachers and the following specialists: art, librarian, counselor, learning disabilities teacher, mildly handicapped teacher, speech therapist, psychologist, and reading improvement. Additionally, there was a school nurse, two host nation teachers, a psychologist, and a speech therapist.

By school year 1987-88 there were about 180 students at Glyfada Annex. The next year the enrollment had dropped to 150 students.

The school was closed in 1991.
