Upwood ES History

Upwood American Elementary School was located at RAF Upwood, twelve miles north of RAF Alconbury. The school was considered to be part of the Alconbury complex and was renovated prior to the 1987-88 school year. By the 1987-88 school year there were 200 pupils in grades kindergarten through six and further expansion of the school was planned. The next school year the school was located in three, recently renovated, two story buildings in a campus style setting. There were 265 students in grades K–6.

By the 1993-94 school year there were 450 students in the school. By the next school year the enrollment had decreased to 380 students. The school now had a developmental primary encompassing kindergarten and first grade, with plans to include second and third grade. There was a mini-middle school which included fifth and sixth grades.

By the early nineties, the staff had grown to forty-six and there were almost 450 students. The final year of the school, 1994-95 there were 380 students enrolled.
