Touvent Elementary School was located in the housing area of the same name that served the military community of Châteauroux. The Châteauroux-Déols Air Base (CHAS) in central France was a major United States Air Force supply depot and logistics hub during the Cold War, operating from March 1951 to March 1967. As the largest USAF supply base in Europe for sixteen years, it hosted up to 8,000 American personnel and families, significantly impacting the local economy.

The school served dependents in grades one through six.
