Torrejon ES (formerly Madrid ES) History

Torrejon Elementary School was located on Torrejon Air Base near the Spanish village of Torrejon de Ardoz, Spain. The elementary school was a one-story building on the base, containing thirty-five classrooms. There was a large play area adjacent to the school and an auditorium. The school faculty included specialists for special education, learning disabilities, gifted and talented, reading improvement, ESL, and speech. There was also a School Psychologist that served the Madrid and Zaragoza schools. Over 90% of the students were bused to the school from outlying areas. The school had grades Kindergarten through eighth grade.

During the 1980’s the enrollment remained constant at 675 students. For the 1980-81 school year the eighth graders were moved to the high school.

The elementary school became a kindergarten through eighth grade when the high school was closed in 1992. The elementary school closed in 1994.
