Degerndorf Dependent School History

Opened: 1949
Closed: 1955

Degerndorf Dependent School was located outside the small town of Nussdorf am Inn in the Bavaria area of Germany. The school was on a site that was a camp of displaced persons after World War II. The camp was closed in 1949 and then the Americans used the facility. The base was located between the towns of Regensberg and Passau.

The school was a two-room schoolhouse. Some students were transported daily by members of the local MP detachment or by government car with a German driver. The school was opened in 1949 and remained open until 1955. The principal/teacher for the 1949-50 school year was Ruth E. Jones. For the 1951-52 school year, Maxine Pierman was the teacher/principal. In 1954, Ms. Rella Park was the teacher/principal, and there were twenty-seven students enrolled in grades one through eight. Students who attended the school were dependents of military families in Bad Aibling, Rosenheim, and Chiemsee.
