Weierhof ES History

Opened: 1964
Closed: 1992

Weierhof American Elementary School was a small elementary school approximately a 45-minute drive from Kaiserslautern. The elementary school opened for the 1964-65 school year. The housing area was made up of ten four-story buildings. The school building, which set in the middle of the military housing area, contained a principal’s office, three classrooms, a supply room and a library. In 1964 two teachers, teaching principal and secretary made up the staff.

For the 1981-82 school year, the school had 140 students in grades K-6. There were now four classrooms and a Learning Resource Center that doubled as a kindergarten room for the first half of the school day. At this time there were six teachers at the school.

Four additional classrooms were built for the 1982-83 school year. In 1987 there were 120 students enrolled. Specialists assigned to the school for one day a week included LD and TAG, a speech therapist, a music teacher, a nurse, a physical education teacher, a librarian and an art teacher.

The school was closed in 1992.
