Ruelzheim American Elementary School was located sixteen miles east of Karlsruhe. The elementary school was the only American facility in the town of Ruelzheim. The school aged children from Germersheim were bused the four miles to the school each day.

The school was a two-storied, converted German school building. There were five classrooms, a teachers’ workroom, supply room, three attic rooms and an office. The playground area was quite small. There was no lunch facility, so all students brought their lunches and ate in the classrooms.

For the 1981-82 school year there were three teachers for the 134 students in grades Kindergarten through sixth. The school closed prior to 1987.
