Halvorsen-Tunner ES/MS History

For the 1994-95 school year, the elementary school and middle school were combined and were now known as Halvorsen-Tunner Elementary/Middle School. The school staff consisted of three administrators, forty-eight classroom teachers, twenty specialists, three host nation teachers, six paraprofessionals, and six office/supply personnel. Special education programs included mildly learning impaired, both resource and self-contained; developmental preschool; and severely/multiple handicapped classes.
Ms. Ophelia Phillips, principal, and Tim Erickson, assistant principal, were the administrative team for the 1998–2001 school years. The enrollment steadily decreased from 1998-99 until the school closed in 2005. There were about 425 students for the 1998-99 school year and less than 300 for the 2003-04 school year.

Our school may be small
but it serves us well
We learn and have fun
'till the goodbye bell
We always try to participate
and to class we try
never to be late
The teachers are nice
and a reliable source
except for a few lapses, of course
The school lunch isn't always delicious
but they try hard
to make it nutritious
We try our best to recycle our trash
not only for the environment
but to save cash
We have specials like Music, P.E., and Art
which are very good
for the mind and the heart
We all try hard to get along
but we're not perfect
sometimes we go wrong
The 1st and 2nd graders
are real sweet
and the 3rd and 4th
are nice to meet
The 5th and 6th
seem to be in a daze
while the 7th grade is in a craze
8th graders and Kindergartners
are a lot alike
except for one is big
and one's a tike
At the end of each quarter
if we've tried hard
we receive
a certificate card
We love our colors BLUE and GOLD
and our FALCON reminds us
to be bold
No school could possibly be
"funner"

According to the principal, “Normal life at Halvorsen-Tunner is truly good. This is a school where students learn to do lots of interesting things, have a voice in school operations, and have fun during the Process. Students get smart and they are kind. Students ‘practice’ what teachers ‘teach’. As a result, we have a stimulating, pleasant, and safe learning-growing environment where students SLIDE into success.”
Mrs. Phillips-Scott retired after the 2000-01 school year, and Mrs. Somaini was the administrator for the final three years of the school.
The school was closed in 2005 when Rhein Main Air Base was closed.
