Johann Kalb Elementary School, which had grades one through six, was located within the Kalb Housing Area. In the eighties, all the students walked to school from the housing area. The three-story building was completed in 1975.
The Nuernberg complex consisted of Nuernberg American High School, Nuernberg Elementary School #1 and Johann Kalb Elementary School. The schools were in the Kalb Housing Area of the William O. Darby Kaserne in Fuerth, Germany, approximately fifteen minutes driving time from Nuernberg.
There were forty-three teachers for the 750 students at the school for the 1981-82 school year. By the end of the eighties there were 950 students at Kalb.
For the 1993-94 school year, Kalb Elementary School had grades one through five, with 538 students. The school also included a small kindergarten class at Pastorius and another kindergarten class at O’Brien Barracks.
The school was closed in June 1994.
