Hohenfels Elementary School is located near Hohenfels, Germany, and is nestled in the picturesque, rolling hills of northern Bavaria between two major cities, Regensberg and Nurnberg. Hohenfels Elementary School currently provides services to students in prekindergarten to fifth grade.
The school opened in 1954 and served students through eighth grade. High school students attended school in Nurnberg until the Hohenfels high school was built in 1995. The first principal of the elementary school was Marion Martin, and the original school had thirty-one students.
The school was located in the training area. In 1962, there were four classrooms. A new wing with three modern classrooms was completed in August 1981. One of the new classrooms was for the learning development program. The school’s library had a collection of 5,000 books in the early eighties.
For the 1981-82 school year, there was one kindergarten session in the morning for twenty-seven children. There were 152 children in grades one through eight, with four combined classes. There were six homeroom teachers, a kindergarten teacher, a learning development aide, a kindergarten aide, host nation teacher, learning development teacher, secretary, supply person, and a principal on the faculty and staff.
The older portion of the school was completely renovated in 1984. For the 1987-88 school year, there were 197 pupils in grades kindergarten through eight. For the 1989-90 school year, the school had a three-classroom annex and a main building with seven classrooms, media center, learning development classroom, and offices. Students went to the post gymnasium for physical education and the post dining room for lunch. There were 260 students enrolled for the 1993-94 school year.
A new addition was planned for the 1993-94 school year for an expected increase of 350 students. The new addition would have fifteen classrooms plus rooms for support staff: art, music, etc. The project was finished in August 1995. For the 1995-96 school year, seventh and eighth graders moved to the new high school. Later, when the high school became a middle/high school, the sixth grade was moved to the high school.
The principal for the 2022-23 school year was Ronald Lathop, and there were 317 students in grades Sure Start through five. The school mascot is the Tiger Cub, and the school colors are blue and black.
