Bindlach ES History

Opened: 1957
Closed: 1992

Bindlach American Elementary School was located on the Bindlach Military Post. The Post was approximately eight miles from Bayreuth and fifty miles north of Nuremburg. The Military Post was a former German air station located on a plateau at the edge of the village.

The new school was a one-story permanent structure that was completed in 1983 with additional prefabricated units. The school had twelve classrooms, a library, office/workroom, supply room and teachers’ lounge. The library doubled as a projection room. An addition was completed in 1986.

Little information is available regarding the early history of the school. In 1981 there were 185 students in grades K-8 and nine teachers. By the 1987-88 school year, the school now served grades K-7 and had 185 pupils enrolled. Due to the increased enrollment, there were fourteen teachers who were supplemented by itinerant teachers for specials. By the 1989-90 school year, there were 235 students in grades K-6.

The school was closed in 1992.
