Bayreuth American Dependent School was one of the first schools in Germany and opened in 1946. The school was part of the Erlangen District which had 115 students in fourteen different locations. The school was located in Bayreuth, Germany, which is a town in northern Bavaria on the Red Main River.

After World War II, Bayreuth was part of the American Zone. The American forces set up a displaced persons (DP) camp to accommodate displaced persons from the war. Many of the people in the camp had been displaced from the Ukraine.

For the 1953-54 school year, the school’s principal was Francis Cliff, and there were ninety-five students in grade K–8. The school was closed in 1957 when the military mission for the area was completed.
