Rainbow ES History

Rainbow Elementary School opened in August 1986. The school was located at Barton Barracks and was a brick building with twenty general-purpose classrooms, a multi-purpose room, a media center, and music and art rooms.

The staff of forty-six included a nurse, reading improvement specialist, English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, communication impaired teacher, learning disabilities teacher, gifted and talented teacher, and specialists for art, music, and physical education.

At the end of the 80s, all kindergartens, under the supervision of the administration of Rainbow Elementary School, were located at the old Bleidorn School in Bleidorn housing area. The school enrollment for the 1987-88 school year was 650 students and rose to 750 students the next school year.

For the 1992-93 school year, Rainbow Elementary became a K-8 school serving all the seventh and eighth graders in the Ansbach community. The school enrollment was 368 students. The school staff was now forty-six and included a school nurse, reading improvement specialist, ESL teacher, specialists for special needs, a gifted and talented teacher, and specialists for music, art, and physical education.

Seventh and eighth graders returned to the high school for the 1994-95 school year.

The school was closed at the end of the 2014-15 school year.
