Dr. Robert N. Bureker

June 30, 1932 - October 29, 2008

Bob was born in Los Angeles, CA and graduated from high school in Eugene, Oregon. He attended college at the University of Oregon and was an Army veteran serving in Germany during the mid 1950’s.

Bob began his DoDDS career in 1961 in Augsburg, Germany, and over the next 30 years served in a variety of positions in England and Germany. While in DoDDS he was a teacher, principal, English curriculum coordinator, and Director of the Assessment and Development Center in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1976 he received his doctorate from the University of Southern California.

In 1991, upon learning he had cancer, Bob retired to the Northwest to be near his children and grandchildren. He continued to be involved in education by doing workshops for DoDDS in Europe and becoming a student teacher supervisor for Washington State University.

Bob’s life revolved around his family, education, and his church. Although his last few years were marked by his courageous struggle with cancer, he is best remembered for his love of life and people. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hanna, three children, Barbara Bureker Lepley, Markus Bureker, and Heidi Bureker, as well as several grandchildren.
