Ingrades American Elementary School served the dependents of the Army Depot at Ingrades. All the families of the Americans lived on the economy and a new school building was completed for the 1954-55 school year. Prior to the completion of the school the students attended school in a French building in the nearby town of Chatellerault. High school students attended school at Chateauroux Air Base and lived in dormitories at the air base. The principal for the 1954-55 school year was Sheldon D. Strong and there were 163 students in grades kindergarten through eight.
