Captieux American Elementary School was a small school located near the town of Captieux in southwestern France. Between 1950 and 1967, the U. S. Army’s 23,000-acre 571st Ordnance Ammunition Command (Captieux Ordnance Depot) was situated southwest of the village. The elementary school was a two-teacher school located in an old house. For the 1954-55 school year the principal was Herbert V. Reynolds and there were seventy-two students enrolled in grades kindergarten through eight. The host nation teacher commuted from Bordeaux. In 1959 a new dependent school was built.
